Smartphones and tablets continue to gain in popularity among W&L students, according to a survey of W&L first-year students just released by Information Technology Services. Virtually all members of the class of 2016 participated in the survey, administered by ITS and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
Eight-nine percent of first-years brought smartphones to W&L, up from 77 percent of first-year students who brought smartphones the previous year. In addition, 16 percent of first-year students brought tablet computers this year, up from 10 percent of first-year students who brought those devices in 2011. Apple-branded devices (iPhones and iPads) comprise an ever-increasing proportion of smartphones and tablets brought by students.
The data show increasing use of mobile devices among W&L students over the last several years. ITS is committed to supporting students’ use of these devices through continuing to expand and enhance W&L’s wireless infrastructure and providing services that are accessible and easy to use by mobile devices.
