Professor Robert Humston is looking for two students who are interested in assisting with his research in fisheries ecology this summer. The goal is to collect tissue samples from smallmouth bass in the tributaries of the middle James River. He will extract DNA from these samples and send them out for further analyses. Field work will include extensive canoeing / kayaking and fish collection (electrofishing as well as hook-and-line). Competence in the field and on the water and some fishing experience are required. Laboratory experience is also desirable. He needs up to two reliable and resourceful people that he can trust to safely navigate these rivers and catch fish. If you’re interested, please contact him as soon as possible at HumstonR@wlu.edu. These positions will remain open until filled.
