Virginia Climbing Team is recruiting competitive climbers

The Virginia Climbing team invites competitive climbers to come out this Spring and compete in USA Climbing’s Collegiate Climbing Series (CCS), which is the only National competitive climbing circuit for college climbers in the USA!
For those of you who are not familiar with CCS, it is a competitive rock climbing series that takes place every spring where collegiate climbers can represent their schools, get to know other climbers in their area, and enjoy a gym full of challenging new routes. While it is competitive, the environment is very relaxed and friendly. Climbers of all abilities are welcome! There are raffles for sweet climbing swag, t-shirts, and cliff bars galore! Winning ribbons and medals for the sport you love is pretty cool too!
The competitions will be held in the following gyms on these dates:
· Peak Experiences in Midlothian, VA – March 17
· Rise Up Climbing in Lynchburg, VA – March 24
· Virginia Beach Rock Gym in Virginia Beach, VA – April 7 [this will be the regional championship]
· National Championships- Metro Rock- (Everett Location) Boston, MA – April 12
Registration is usually $40 for each competition which always comes with a free t-shirt. Check with the individual gyms for registration information.
For more information, you should check out CCS Information on the USA Climbing website: http://usaclimbing.net/ccs/home.cfm

LEAD FOR APOGEE!

Apogee Information Session:
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 7:00 – 7:45 PM
ELROD COMMONS 345
Interviews:

Tuesday, February 14 through Kimberly Phillips in Career Services, 540-458-8595 or kphillips@wlu.eduor.

Are you someone who thrives on challenge? Do you love the outdoors and working with young people?  Do you have what it takes to be a true leader? If so, Apogee would like to hear from you. We are looking for the best and th e brightest to join Apogee for an exciting summer of adventure and personal growth. This is your opportunity to inspire young people and realize your own leadership potential.

Apogee Adventures of Brunswick, Maine  is looking for current sophomores, juniors and seniors (age 20 or older by June 2012) to lead overnight Outdoor Adventure/Community Service trips in New England, Quebec, Montana, Oregon, Washington, California, Puerto Rico & Italy this summer.

Applicants should be highly responsible and motivated individuals who are great with kids/teenagers and love the outdoors.

Thoughts from the Field:

Nick Smith, Dover, NH
Bowdoin College, Class of 2009
Trips as a Leader:
Montana Service Adventure ’08, Northwest Explorer ’08, America Coast to Coast ’09, America Coast to Coast ’10, Tuscan Service Adventure ‘11
“I’ve led trips across the some of the most scenic parts of the country and abroad (through the states of Montana, Arizona, and California to name a few). However, the trips themselves aren’t what make Apogee special. It’s Apogee’s concentration on group unity, wholesome challenge, and adventure that enhance these scenic locations into something truly unique. Everything from the community I feel during leader training in Brunswick, to the level of communication and support I get in the field help shape each Apogee trip into a ‘once in a lifetime’ accomplishment. Most importantly, though, NOTHING has been more rewarding than working with the caliber of kids that Apogee draws. For me, these students are a part of a family that is a summer home away from home ; friends that I will be connected to for the rest of my life.”
